Nominated Connections to the UHI Network, governed by the RPAN contract

JANET Primary Connections to HEIs and FECs are ultimately funded by SHEFC and SFEFC respectively. The Funding Councils fund the JISC, who in turn fund UKERNA to provide these connections, and UKERNA in turn subcontracts to the relevant Regional Network Operator, in this case UHI.

These UKERNA-funded connections to the UHI Network are termed 'Nominated Connections' and are regulated by the JANET Regional Partner Academic Network (RPAN) contract. The SuperJANET4 Regionalisation Project gave rise to the RPAN contract as a standard contractual interface between UKERNA, as operator of JANET, and the Regional Network Operators (previously called MANs) to facilitate the regionalisation process and establish a contractual basis for the delivery of JANET service to institutions across Regional Networks.

UHI is transitioning from the old JANET Managed Access Point ( MAP) contract to this new contract basis, and is implementing a Transition Plan as part of the process.
